The Costa del Sol (in English: Sunny Coast) belongs to the autonomous community of Andalusia and has an extension of more than 300 km including the Mediterranean beaches of the andalusian provinces of Malaga, Cadiz and Granada. In the east it borders with the Costa de Almerķa and in the west with the Costa de la Luz, separated by the Strait of Gibraltar. The Costa del Sol is a very interesting Spanish region to visit and due to his pleasant climate you can enjoy during the whole year.
Since the 1960s the Costa del Sol has developed to a popular vacation destination for tourist from all over the world. Today it is characterized by numerous hotels. The whole coast is highly developed but the western part is a bit more developed than the eastern part because the western coastline was the first touristic area at the Costa del Sol. The most touristic towns at the Costa del Sol are in the west of Malaga the cities between Torremolinos and Benalmadena over Marbella to San Pedro de Alcantara and in the east of Malaga the coastline between Torre del Mar and Nerja. Sometimes this part is also called Costa Tropical.
